Our commitment to R&D drives our innovations in aviation technology. We continuously explore new methods to enhance performance while minimizing environmental impact.
Globally, aviation is responsible for nearly 2.5% of CO₂ emissions—and the pressure to de-carbonize is growing. Vanguard Aerocraft Services embraces this challenge with a clear vision: to accelerate the adoption of clean propulsion systems, including electric, hybrid-electric, and hydrogen-powered aircraft.
In a region vulnerable to climate change and increasingly conscious of energy security, clean aviation is not just environmentally necessary—it’s strategically vital. Vanguard is committed to supporting this transition by partnering with developers of next-generation propulsion, integrating cleaner air frames into operations, and advocating for regulatory frameworks that promote sustainable air mobility.
VTOL technology represents a leap forward in how we think about flight. Whether it’s electric VTOL (eVTOL) air taxis, cargo drones, or military applications, these aircraft break the old runway-bound limitations of aviation. They can take off and land vertically, require minimal infrastructure, and operate in areas previously unreachable by traditional aircraft.
For a geographically compact yet topographically diverse country like Sri Lanka, VTOL craft can be game-changing. From highlands to remote coastal zones, from congested cities to isolated islands, VTOL platforms offer:
l Rapid disaster response
l Efficient inter-island logistics
l Tourism and medical evacuation services
l Support for offshore energy and marine surveillance
VAS is actively exploring partnerships and deployments in this sector—positioning Sri Lanka as a VTOL-ready nation.
The future of aviation in Sri Lanka lies not in expansion alone, but in adaptation—adapting to climate imperatives, to geopolitical pressures, to new forms of connectivity.
In this new landscape, VAS sees three critical pillars:
Like their maritime counterparts, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are becoming indispensable in monitoring, logistics, and defense.
A future where aerial, terrestrial, and maritime unmanned systems operate in a coordinated digital ecosystem—sharing data, enhancing resilience, and optimizing national infrastructure.
Moving away from ownership models to service-oriented air mobility, enabled by VTOL fleets and powered by real-time data.
At the forefront of aviation innovation, we specialize in three critical domains that shape the future of aerospace systems and performance.
We bring cutting-edge solutions to cockpit design by integrating ergonomic functionality with advanced technology. Our team collaborates closely with engineers, pilots, and human factors experts to create intuitive, mission-ready cockpit environments for both manned and unmanned aircraft. From conceptual layouts to final systems integration, we ensure every element enhances pilot situational awareness, safety, and control efficiency.
As vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) technology transforms modern aviation, our training programs prepare the next generation of pilots and remote operators for success. We specialize in tailored VTOL flight and controller training—spanning piloted and remotely piloted aircraft—emphasizing operational safety, flight control logic, emergency protocols, and mission readiness. Whether for urban air mobility, defense, or commercial applications, we equip personnel with the precision skills needed in this evolving sector.
Our elite cadre of test pilots combines technical mastery with operational insight to validate and refine aircraft performance. With experience across fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and next-generation aerial platforms, we conduct comprehensive flight evaluations, system verifications, and envelope expansion trials. Our pilots are instrumental in bridging the gap between design intent and real-world performance.
Vanguard Aerocraft Services specializes in developing customized, cost-effective simulator solutions tailored to the unique flight characteristics of VTOL aircraft. In collaboration with our technology partners, we design and deliver realistic, modular simulation systems that support both ab initio and advanced pilot training. These simulators not only enhance safety and training efficiency but also offer scalable options for operators looking to integrate simulation into their daily training programs without incurring prohibitive costs. Vanguard’s approach ensures that every pilot is prepared, confident, and mission-ready—before ever leaving the ground.
Vanguard will lead the effort to localize and streamline supply chain operations, focusing on identifying, developing, and integrating Sri Lankan suppliers and service providers into the aircraft production and support ecosystem. This will ensure cost-effective, sustainable, and efficient manufacturing and maintenance operations.
Vanguard will be responsible for the ergonomic and functional design of the cockpit, ensuring optimal human-machine interaction. The focus will be on pilot situational awareness, comfort, safety, and adherence to international standards of cockpit layout and usability.
Leveraging its experienced team of military and civil aviators, Vanguard will design and implement the VTOL pilot training program, including ground school, simulator training, and in-flight instruction specific to the Seahorse craft. Emphasis will be placed on safety, standard operating procedures, and practical mission readiness.
Vanguard Aerocraft Services will take full responsibility for the entire testing phase of the Seahorse aircraft. This includes planning and executing ground trials, hover tests, transitional flight evaluations, and performance validations in both maritime and urban environments. The program will be led by seasoned test pilots and engineers from Vanguard, ensuring a structured and safe progression to full operational certification
Vanguard Aerocraft Services holds full responsibility for designing and implementing the pilot training program for the Seahorse maritime VTOL aircraft. This includes developing a comprehensive, competency-based training syllabus tailored specifically for vertical takeoff and maritime operations.
From determining the ideal mix of simulator-based training and live flight hours, to defining the core subjects—such as aerodynamics, systems, emergency procedures, human factors, and mission-specific skills—every element of the training pipeline is curated by Vanguard.
We also lead the pilot selection and screening process, ensuring candidates meet both technical and cognitive benchmarks for safe VTOL operations. Our training approach blends modern simulation technologies, real-world flying experience, and scenario-based learning to produce pilots who are proficient, confident, and mission-ready.
Vanguard Aerocraft Services is not directly engaged in the engineering or manufacturing of avionics systems for the Seahorse Air maritime VTOL craft. However, one of our core responsibilities is to define and specify the avionics suite to be integrated into the aircraft.
We play a critical role in evaluating operational requirements, selecting appropriate avionics configurations, and determining which avionics systems and interfaces are best suited for mission profiles, human-machine interface, and maritime operations.
All decisions regarding what should be included in the avionics package, including choice of displays, navigation systems, flight control integration, and communications, fall under our purview as part of our design oversight and operational suitability mandate.
A delegation representing Seahorse Air UK and VAS made an official visit to the Ministry of Defence to present the Seahorse VTOL maritime craft and introduce the proposed industry initiative. Mr. Anurag Gupta, Founder and CEO Sea Horse Air-UK, presented a commemorative souvenir to the Secretary of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha ( Retd) , at the Defence Headquarters Complex.
